Mirror Text Generator

Turn any text into its left-right mirror image. The tool reverses the order of the characters and swaps each one for a mirrored lookalike from Unicode where one exists, so the result is plain text you can copy. A visual preview beside it shows how the original would look in a mirror, and anything without a lookalike is listed so you know what stayed the same.

Each line is reversed and every letter swapped for its mirror-image lookalike where one exists. Anything without a lookalike is copied through unchanged.

Visual mirror preview

This preview is your original text flipped with a CSS transform, so it shows what a mirrored image would look like. It can't be copied as mirrored text: selecting or copying it gives you the normal text. Use the copy button above for text you can paste.

Why This Tool Matters

Mirrored text has a few honest uses. Designers use it to mock up a reversed sign or a decal meant to be read in a rear-view mirror, puzzle writers hide a clue that is easy to read once you hold it up to a mirror, and anyone with a creative bio or a themed post can use it to give a line a flipped, through-the-looking-glass feel. Because it is real Unicode, it pastes into places a flipped image never could.

Be realistic about the limits. Unicode has mirror-image forms for many Latin letters but not all of them, and a few of the substitutes are close lookalikes rather than perfect reflections. That is why the tool lists any character it had to leave as it was. For a perfect mirror of a whole design, flip the text element in your design software instead, as the questions below explain.

How to Use

  1. 01

    Type or paste your text

The mirrored version appears as you type, line by line.

  2. 02

    Check the result

Look at the copyable text and the note listing any characters that have no mirror form.

  3. 03

    Copy the mirrored text

Paste it where you need it. The preview is for looking at only; it cannot be copied as mirrored text.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is mirror text different from reverse text and upside down text?

Reverse text only changes the order of the characters, so the letters themselves still face the original way. Upside down text rotates the text half a turn, flipping both the order and each letter. Mirror text flips it sideways, as in a mirror: the order is reversed and each letter is swapped for its reflected form where Unicode has one, such as b with d or the letter S with Ƨ.

Why are some characters left unchanged?

Unicode has no mirror-image version of every character, so the tool leaves those as they are and lists them under the output. Letters that already look the same in a mirror, like A, H, O and T, are not a problem. Characters such as k, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9 and most non-Latin scripts have no good reflected form.

Can I copy the preview as mirrored text?

No. The preview is your original text flipped by a CSS transform, so it only changes how it looks on the page. When you select and copy it you get the normal text. Copy the box above it for text that is actually mirrored. If you need a mirrored image, take a screenshot of the preview.

How do I mirror text in Canva?

Add your text as a text element, select it, and choose Flip, then Flip horizontal, from the toolbar above the canvas. Canva moves and renames controls from time to time, so if you do not see Flip, look under Position or search the editor for “flip”.

How do I mirror text in Word?

Put the text in a text box, right-click the box and open Format Shape, then Effects and 3-D Rotation. Set X Rotation to 180 degrees. Word does not mirror text that sits directly in the page body, only text in a text box or shape. Menu names vary between versions, so look for 3-D rotation if the wording differs.

How do I mirror text in Google Docs?

Insert a drawing (Insert, then Drawing, then New), add a text box and type your text, then choose Actions, Rotate, Flip horizontally and save and close. The mirrored text becomes a drawing rather than editable text. Google moves menu items occasionally, so check Actions if the path above looks different.
